Wooden duck characters

Each DCUK duck is bursting with personality. This perhaps comes down to the passion that the team has for the ducks themselves. The DCUK project began with a love for Indonesian runner ducks. It was their curiously upright, penguin-like stance, their energetic speed and their interactions with humans that made them so intriguing and lovable. The founders of DCUK returned to Britain from that trip to Indonesia with a mission to capture this energy in beautiful ornaments, and The Original Wooden Duck Company was formed.

Hand crafted wooden ducks

These wooden character ducks still have their roots in two small Indonesian villages, where the DCUK founders have kept their relationships strong over the years. This provides continual jobs in the area, whilst it makes the most of traditional and sustainable bamboo craft. When the runner ducks, penguins or garden birds have been carved, they are then lovingly painted by hand. Little touches are added to their outfits in the carving and painting process to give each design a fun and striking personality. This can be seen clearly in the pure exuberance of the wooden ducks with bright pink hats, patterned wellies and cosy scarves.

DCUK wooden animals

It is not just ducks which DCUK now are interested in! You will also see in our large collection some adorable DCUK puffins and swans, as well as some lovely little ducklings. When each design is completed by the team, the animal character receives its own suitable name, and a DCUK pin which indicates its quality and its character! These wooden characters are pleasingly tactile, as they are crated to enhance the effect of the bamboo grain. On top of that, the outfits are always vividly and realistically colourful: all in all, they would be the perfect gift for any animal lover!
